You can see an interesting post by a young man who has been 'studying personal development for 5 years' and shares basically how he uses mindfulness for self-discipline. (There is also a link to ayoutube video at top of his post). He gives plenty of advice.
I replied as well. I plan to follow this discussion as while he's in the right direction IMHO, he's also missing some of the key elements of mindfulness as I understand it (and as Jon Kabat Zinn defines it). So, read it and the comments. It's a good thing as it's promoting thought and dialogue about how to apply mindfulness in daily life.
